May Birthstone: Emerald
For centuries pharaohs, emperors, kings, and queens have used emeralds in their royal adornments. From Cleopatra to the legendary Crown of the Andes, emeralds have become the vibrant green gemstone to capture the hearts of many for over a millennium. For the month of May, this gemstone has become the traditional birthstone symbolizing loyalty, new beginnings, peace, and security.
Over the last couple of years, we have been developing a responsible supply chain for emerald that met our Fair Trade Gems® Principles and Protocols. After more than four years in development, we are very happy to finally offer Brazilian-sourced emerald! Emeralds come from a variety of locations but, as with all our sourcing, we try to work with small mining groups or co-ops. We are currently working with a group in Bahia, Brazil which has produced emeralds for a long time, though many do not even know about it.
While we are still in the process of samples and test cutting, we do have a limited variety of shapes and sizes in Brazilian Emeralds available today. From standard rounds to emeralds cuts, hexagons tablets to freeform shapes, plus our popular sugarloaf and bullet cabochons.
Visit our website to explore our new responsibly sourced Brazilian Emerald. If you are looking for something that you don’t yet see up on our site, feel free to call or email us.
