Water of the Sea Gem 🌊

Water of the Sea Gem 🌊

We're beginning to inch toward springtime and with the calendar switching to March means we give the spotlight to Aquamarine! Aqua is the traditional birthstone for March and is actually a member of the beryl family (just like Emerald or Morganite). This gem's direct Latin translation means "water of the sea" and comes from a variety of locations around the world, with significant deposits found in Brazil, Mozambique, Zambia, Afghanistan, and Nigeria. Today, our team is working with rough primarily sourced from Nigeria. This rough tends to be quite clean, free of inclusions, and cuts lovely blue and slightly blue-green gems. Most of our pure blue gems are available as a result of our low-temperature heating process, which is all done in-house to pull out any of the green tones, leaving a beautifully bright blue Aquamarine.

Today, light-to-pastel colorways are very popular, so Aqua has become popular for more than one reason! With such high demand, we like to offer a wide range of styles. And because we cut these gems ourselves, we have the ability to be very creative! Ten years ago, we only received requests for round or emerald cuts... but today, we cut hexagons, tablets, baguettes, kites, and a whole host of fancy shapes in addition to those traditional styles!

If you love blues, unique cuts, and bright pastel gemstones, then our Aqua is a perfect fit for you! Whether you have a birthday in March or not, you can explore this month's birthstone now.
