Earth Day: Not just today
Everything we source begins with a connection to the Earth, and Moss Agate is no exception to that cherished relationship.
Our Indian Moss Agate is found in active agricultural ground and gathered during the off season. As farmers prepare fields for planting, they will sometimes uncover pieces of moss agate while plowing. Those surface finds can be hint at deeper seams below—something noted and returned to once the seasonal work on the land is complete.
When the mining begins, it’s kept intentional and contained. The topsoil is carefully set aside, the agate-bearing material is accessed, and once finished, the soil is returned so the land can continue its agricultural cycle. Farming continues. The ground goes back to work for the next harvest.
It’s not a perfect process—and we don’t treat it like one. The goal is to work with the land, not simply take from it, and to leave it with the capability to keep doing what it has always done.
For us, responsible sourcing isn’t new or seasonal. It’s part of how we’ve worked for decades, and what we believe is required in this industry: clarity, care, and accountability over time. We work closely with miners and communities to uphold our Fair Trade Gems® Principles and Protocols that guide every decision we make.
We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the support from you—so, thank you for caring about where your gems come from as much as what they become. That shared sentiment is what keeps this work connected to something bigger.
