Frequently Asked Questions

Loyalty Program

From any page, navigate to the top right-hand corner and select the “profile icon” which looks like a human silhouette.

From a mobile view, you will select the “menu icon” which has three stacked lines. From here, you will select the “profile icon” that says Login/Create Account.

First, log in to your account. Then you can go to “Loyalty” in the main menu to see a full summary of your points, tiers, ways to earn, ways to redeem, and more.

Our loyalty program features five tiers, beginning with Rockhound and progressing through Facet Finder, Stone Setter, and Conscious Crafter—before reaching our highest level: Sapphire Steward.

Vault Access is open to everyone. However, as a wholesale business, we will always remain committed to supporting and prioritizing our wholesale partners.

To keep the program fair and enjoyable for all, Columbia Gem House reserves the right to remove or exclude participants in cases of misuse or inappropriate behavior.

Points are added to your account 72 hours after your order has been processed and fulfilled, or after you complete an eligible points-earning activity. Please allow up to 72 hours after shipment or activity completion for points to appear in your account.

Points expire after 365 days of account inactivity.

First, log in to your account. Then you can go to “Loyalty” in the main menu. Scroll to “Available Rewards” and click any available reward to redeem it.

Alternatively, you can click the “Rewards” button in the bottom right corner of any page. A popup will appear, where you can select “How to spend points?” to view your rewards, then click “Redeem” on the reward you want to use.

While there is no minimum required to place an online order, your purchase must be at least $50 (before matching fees, taxes, and shipping) to earn points.

Yes – once your order meets the $50 minimum (before matching fees, taxes, and shipping), you earn points on all products purchased in that order. Matching fees, taxes, and shipping are excluded.

All products are eligible to earn points; however, matching fees, taxes, and shipping are excluded.

Matching fees cover the extra time and care our team puts into hand-selecting and preparing your pieces. Because they reflect that hands-on work, they are not eligible for points.

Vault Access is an online-only program, so points are earned only through purchases made online. Our small team is actively working to bring more products to the website, but in the meantime, items purchased outside the site (like phone, email, or DM orders) are not eligible for points.

Yes. Points are adjusted based on the value of the merchandise returned.

We issue returns as merchandise credit to your wholesale account, which is separate from our online rewards program. Because merchandise credit is not an online payment method, purchases made using account credit do not earn points. Any adjustments made to apply credit will therefore reduce your points accordingly.

We always recommend logging in before placing an order—especially for wholesale—so you receive the correct pricing and earn points. If you forgot to log in and don’t see points reflected on your account after your order has been received, feel free to contact us with your order number and the email associated with your account for support.

General Questions

We’re proud to call the Pacific Northwest home, with our headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Our name is a nod to this region—read more about our story HERE.

We’re a small team of about 15 people, and we stay closely involved in every part of the process—from sourcing and production planning to packing and customer support. This hands-on approach allows us to give thoughtful attention to each order and inquiry, which occasionally means response times take a little longer. We truly appreciate your patience as we do our best to support every customer.

To learn more about our origin story, visit our About Us page.

For general inquiries, you can email our intake team HERE and you will be directed to the appropriate department. You can also call us directly at 1(800)888-2444.

Visits are available by appointment only for verified wholesale customers. Appointments are offered Monday–Friday from 1–3 PM. Please contact us by phone or email to schedule.

We do not buy jewelry, gemstones, or rough from the general public. We have very strict purchasing requirements in order to meet our Fair Trade Gems Principles & Protocols. If you have additional questions, please contact us.

We do not provide cutting services for the general public, but do offer contract cutting for those within the industry that meet volume and production requirements. For more information, please contact us.

We offer custom cutting in select circumstances, including certain custom and volume contract projects. To help ensure responsible sourcing and maintain quality control, custom cutting is generally limited to materials we have sourced ourselves, unless outside material has been reviewed and approved for volume contract cutting.

At this time, we do not offer single-stone custom cutting. For details regarding minimums, requirements, and lead times for custom or contract cutting, please contact us.

We do not offer appraisals or insurance services. These will need to be arranged through a third-party provider.

Only a small portion of our inventory is online right now. With over 50 years in business, our collection runs deep—so if you don’t see what you’re looking for, just reach out.

Not everything we share on social media is currently listed on our website. If you see something you’re interested in and can’t find it online, please send us a DM—we’re happy to help you track it down or confirm availability.

If you are in the trade, you can also request access to our wholesale-only Instagram account, Instagram @columbiagemhousetradeshow. This account is curated with exclusive products, offers, and pricing that are not available on our website.

We offer returns for merchandise credit only, within 14 days of receipt. Read more about our policy on our Returns & Exchanges page.

Yes. Items returned for merchandise credit after 14 days are subject to a restocking fee. Items $200 or less incur a $20 flat fee, and items over $200 incur a 10% fee.

Wholesale & Accounts

Yes—we specialize in wholesale gemstones for verified retail jewelers, designers, and makers.

You can go to "Wholesale" in the main menu of our site, which will take you to a 3-step process to create a wholesale account. Follow the instructions to submit your application and someone from our team will follow up with you as soon as possible.

To view wholesale pricing, you must have an active wholesale account and an active online login. If you have both but do not yet have wholesale access enabled online, please contact us to request access.

Once access is set up, simply log in to your account to see wholesale pricing—wholesale prices will not display unless you are logged in.

If you have any issues with your account or access, please contact us for support.

Create a login on our website using your email and a password, then verify your email through the link sent to you. Once that’s done, contact us to request access to wholesale pricing online.

If you don’t yet have a wholesale account, create your online profile and visit the “Wholesale” section in the main menu to apply. Once approved, we’ll link your online and wholesale accounts.

While we do not offer memos through our website, you can contact us directly for memo options. We offer memo services to eligible customers in good standing. Requests for memo privileges are available to accounts that have purchased outright from us within the last two years.

If you’re a new customer, or haven’t purchased in the past 24 months, we’ll need to re-establish your account first. That means completing a paid purchase, and after six months of active purchasing history, you’ll be eligible to request memo approval.

Please note that meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee approval. All memos must be requested and approved in advance after additional documentation is provided. Privileges are granted at our discretion on a case-by-case basis. Memos are intended to support final purchasing decisions and should result in a sale. Ongoing use of memos without purchase outcomes may result in loss of memo privileges.

Items under $50 wholesale value are not eligible for memo, and items over $5,000 require prior approval.

Columbia Gem House reserves the right to offer, modify, limit, or revoke memo privileges at any time, for any reason.

If you’re unsure about your status or eligibility, please contact us — we’re happy to help.

Product Details

Fair Trade Gems® are gemstones that are responsibly sourced and traceable through a transparent supply chain, from mine to market.

They are guided by our Fair Trade Gems® Principles and Protocols, which prioritize environmental responsibility, fair and safe working conditions, respect for origin communities, and integrity at every stage of production.

Each stone is assigned a Fair Trade Gems® level, giving you insight into how much is known about its origin and journey. This system is designed to bring greater transparency to the gemstone trade and help you better understand the story behind each stone you work with. To learn more, visit our Fair Trade Gems® Principles and Protocols page.

We work exclusively with natural colored gemstones and do not use synthetic materials or stones treated with beryllium, borax, or other mineral-altering processes.

For corundum (sapphire and ruby), we handle the heat treatment ourselves. This is traditional heat-only treatment—with no additives, ever.

If a gemstone has any treatment, it’s always clearly noted in the product details on our website and on the invoice included in your shipment.

Nearly all our gemstones are cut by the team in our Shenzhen workshop, which we opened nearly 35 years alongside our long-time partner, Mr. Lam. He was a registered doctor and helped establish early health and safety standards in the cutting process, including protections around silicosis.

Every gemstone is hand cut—even down to sizes as small as 1mm. The skill and precision of our cutting team is truly unparalleled, and we are continually in awe of their work. They are an essential extension of our team here at HQ.

We’re proud of this long-standing workshop and will be sharing more about our cutting process and team soon—stay tuned.

We also offer a small selection of capsule collections from trusted American cutters we collaborate with. In addition, some estate gemstones are sourced pre-cut and are not cut by us; these are clearly indicated with an “E” in the Fair Trade Level.

Some of our gemstones are labeled with a Fair Trade Gems® Level followed by an “H” or “E.”

“Heritage” (H) refers to materials acquired before 2001, when we first implemented our documentation system. “Estate” (E) refers to materials often acquired through the estate of a friend in the industry, with the intention of helping the family or company responsibly liquidate remaining gemstones.

To learn more about our Fair Trade Gems® Levels, you can visit our Fair Trade Gems® Principles and Protocols page.

We don’t work in diamonds—our focus is entirely on colored gemstones.

No, we do not sell rough material. We specialize in cutting gemstones and primarily offer finished, cut gemstones and jewelry. Occasionally, we may offer natural uncut crystals intended for jewelry use in their original form; however, we do not sell rough material for lapidary work or by request.

You can explore more details on our Gem Facts Pages. We’re continually adding new stones and stories to the site, so if you don’t see what you’re looking for yet, please reach out—we’re happy to share more information.

We offer a complimentary in-house report to our wholesale clients upon request for any gemstone over $1,000 wholesale value.

We can also submit gemstones to a third-party laboratory for certification upon request. In these cases, the cost of shipping and the lab report will be billed to you. If for any reason you choose not to keep the stone, you may return the stone for credit within14 days of receipt, minus shipping and lab report costs.
