Hello, Spinel!

Hello, Spinel!
As a newcomer to the birthstone scene, spinel is a captivating alternative that deserves its own spotlight!

The name “spinel” is derived from the Latin word spinella, meaning “spine,” which references the pointed shapes of its crystal structure. Spinel has made notable appearances throughout history, first discovered in 100 BCE inside a Buddhist tomb. It is renowned for its durability and resistance to weather and physical wear, making it a fantastic gem for various applications.

Spinel boasts a wide range of colors, from intense reds and vibrant pinks to deep purples, soft lavenders, exceptional blues, and striking jet blacks. It can be found around the globe, though we only source from a few select locations including Australia, Tanzania, and Cambodia.

Whether you’re drawn to spinel’s striking vibrant colors, or the high polish displayed in its jet blacks, we believe spinel makes a great addition to celebrate the month of August.
