Responsibly Sourced Moss Agate from India

Responsibly Sourced Moss Agate from India
Moss Agate continues to be one of the most requested gem varieties today, driven heavily by consumer demand. Even with its popularity, it is highly unusual to know where or how this material is brought to market. So, in true Columbia Gem House fashion, we wanted to offer an option where you know both of those things.

Sourced from Aurangabad, a city in Maharashtra, India, our Moss Agate is mined by one miner who works closely with local farmers to create a mutually gainful use of farming land. After the annual harvest, the mining takes place just before replanting for the next growing season. This collaboration helps identify the best mining spots during cultivation and ends with a collective effort in replacing topsoil when the time comes to plant.

Known for its unique veining, Moss Agate is a cryptocrystalline quartz that encapsulates opaque green veins. The patterns created with these veins resemble moss-like vegetation, as though part of the Earth is forever captured within the gem. As our first round of cutting, we have a variety of shapes and sizes including hex tablets, emerald cuts, faceted rounds, sugarloaf cabs, baguettes, small pears, and more.

We hope you feel grounded with nature as you explore our Moss Agate, because that’s certainly what it does for us.
