Columbia Gem House (CGH) and the Peoples Training & Research Centre (PTRC) have partnered together for the Cutting Toward Change Fundraiser. This is CGH's sixth annual fundraising raffle. This online event features eight pieces of jewelry, crafted and donated by designers participating in the MJSA Responsibly Sourced Design Challenge, sponsored by Columbia Gem House.

100% of every ticket sold will be donated to the Peoples Training & Research Centre to support their work addressing occupational safety and health issues in Gujarat, India, specifically around silicosis in the gemstone and jewelry industry.

Every Ticket Supports the Peoples Training & Research Centre in Silicosis Prevention

The Peoples Training & Research Centre (PTRC) works to address critical gaps in occupational safety and health through training, awareness, documentation, research, and advocacy for workers’ rights. A significant part of this work focuses on silicosis, an incurable lung disease caused by prolonged exposure to respirable silica dust, which continues to affect workers across India. PTRC works to raise awareness of the disease, improve working conditions, and support workers and communities affected by occupational exposure.

The connection to this year’s raffle is particularly meaningful. One of the featured gemstones is Moss Agate sourced from India, where workers across several industries—including gemstone cutting—can be exposed to silica dust and are at risk of developing silicosis.

Through this fundraiser, you will directly PTRC’s work in preventing and addressing silicosis, while bringing greater attention to an occupational health issue that remains under-discussed within the gem and jewelry industry today.

Donated Gemstones

Featured gemstones donated by Columbia Gem House include: Indian Moss Agate, Brazilian Andalusite, Nigerian Tourmaline, and Winza Sapphires

MJSA Responsibly Sourced Design Challenge

This fundraiser runs alongside the MJSA Responsibly Sourced Design Challenge, and together they celebrate responsible sourcing and support for the jewelry supply chain. While the two projects share the same inspiration, they are separate, with voting and raffle ticket purchases taking place at different locations.
